A contextual design approach drove the redesign and renovation of Cleveland’s W. 117th Street Station. The station is sited in a neighborhood with long-standing brick buildings that boast beautiful, but simple detailing. As a unique project type, with unmonitored users populating the site around the clock, the site and station design aimed to be one of design clarity, accessibility, safety and comfort. Along these lines, the design realized that the user-experience doesn’t start at entering the station’s doors, but includes the journey to those doors. On-site parking was carefully planned and sized for ease of access as a critical piece to a successful the multi-modal project.
