Bialosky Cleveland has been honored to serve as executive or implementing architect for a number of internationally known designers. Bialosky’s most frequent collaboration is with Maya Lin, a designer most well-known for her work creating the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The Riggio Lynch Chapel for the Children’s Defense Fund involved the design of a 4,000 sq. ft. interfaith chapel, including the chapel proper, with an outdoor terrace that can be semi-enclosed, a separate facility for smaller meetings, a kitchen area, and rest room facilities. The covered terrace allows for maximum-capacity seating as well as protected outdoor spaces for meetings. The chapel proper has adjustable seating to allow for services, meetings, and music and dance performances. The project included the design and construction of a 60-car parking lot.
The chapel itself is a compound curved building with a 12 ft. diameter circular skylight accompanied by eight smaller skylights. The structure consists of wood tongue and groove decking over custom glue laminate beams, the largest being 75 feet long, and is supported by steel columns. The project sits between a pond and an orchard on the Haley Farm estate in Clinton, Tennessee.
The administrative wing accommodates all offices, service facilities and additional meeting spaces, once again contributing to a design that can be highly flexible to suit the multiple needs of Haley Farm.
