The Avenue at Macedonia is a post-hospitalization facility that provides elder care in an amenity-rich, hotel-like environment. It is one of nearly a dozen “Avenue at” facilities in Northeast Ohio where Bialosky Cleveland provided MEP engineering and lighting design.
The 79,000 SF single-story facility is modeled after the familiar “Main Street”, where different services, such as the hairstylist or ice cream parlor, appear as unique shops. This posed the challenge of designing a multitude of specific lighting concepts for the Main Street “shops” and dining within a single building. Our engineers provided budget-conscious solutions while still achieving a diverse mix of lighting and highly accommodating MEP systems. Sensitivity to lighting for the elderly was a priority in each environment, tuning all lighting designs to less than 30,000 Kelvins. Furthermore, residents have individual temperature and lighting controls in each suite, ensuring a personalized level of comfort.
Areas of refuge also needed special MEP consideration. In the event of a power outage, residents are moved to these areas that are well-equipped with an abundance of power to sustain life-supporting devices such as respirators.
